Hello, and welcome to Pluralsight! My name is Scott Driscoll, and I want to give you a quick overview of my course, Introduction to Bitcoin and Decentralized Technology. It’s designed to help you get a tangible understanding of how Bitcoin and other decentralized blockchain projects work, and covers things like the big ideas behind Bitcoin, the basics of using Bitcoin, a deep dive into Bitcoin to see how it works under the hood, and a survey of several other decentralized projects including Ethereum, IPFS, ZCash and private blockchains. Along the way, you’ll be using Bitcore to create and broadcast a Bitcoin transaction with JavaScript, and Solidity to create a Smart Contract in Ethereum. When you’re done, you’ll have a broad understanding of Bitcoin and its underlying blockchain technology, as well as where and how it can be used. From there, you can start exploring Smart Contract programming in Ethereum, or enterprise specific blockchains like HyperLedger. I look forward to working with you on Introduction to Bitcoin and Decentralized Technology, here at Pluralsight.

Course Overview
Hi! My name is Scott Driscoll, and welcome to my course, An Introduction to Bitcoin and Decentralized Technology. I’m a software developer and Bitcoin enthusiast. I became utterly fascinated with Bitcoin several years ago about just what is it and how does it work? I began sharing that knowledge on YouTube to an overwhelming reception with well over a million views so far, and I’m excited to expand on those initial introductions with a full in-depth course here at Pluralsight. At its current price, there are now almost $9 billion worth of Bitcoin in existence. But beyond that large valuation, many people are even more excited about the underlying blockchain technology and ways it can be applied to storage, supply chains, identity, computing, and even governments. Some of the major topics we’ll cover include the big ideas behind Bitcoin that make it special, hands-on demonstrations of sending Bitcoin, securely storing it, accepting it on a website, and some basic coding examples, a deep dive into how Bitcoin works including some of the newest features like payment channels, and, finally, a survey beyond Bitcoin including other digital currencies and non-currency topics like the Ethereum decentralized computer, IPFS, or interplanetary file system, and prediction markets. While I do get somewhat technical, my main goal here is to explain the ideas, not, for example, the precise formatting of a transaction. I hope both developers and business and financial professionals will find the course beneficial obtaining a precise understanding of how and why this technology works and where it can be applied. I hope you’ll join me on this journey to see where decentralized and trustless technology and can take us.
